In Beaufort, North Carolina, a prank on a student goes terribly wrong and the student is in the hospital. Landon Carter, a popular student with definite plans for the future, is responsible and obligated to include the community service activities after school as punishment, he starred in the play. Also participating in these activities is Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of pastors, great ambitions and nothing to Landon. When Landon decides he wants to take his activities seriously, he asks Jamie for help and begins to spend most of the time with them. But he starts to develop strong feelings for her to do something you did not expect. The two start a relationship, much to the chagrin of Landon old popular friends and Jamie's strict father.
